Created and directed by Sherwin Mackintosh and Carrie Kelsey, the Shining Stars Performing Arts Academy is making it's debut in the Southeast on June 24, 2018. Sherwin and Carrie were two of the producers of the recent revival of Upside Down. Sherwin is the co-writer (along with Steve Johnson) and Carrie was the Assistant Director and Choreographer.
The Academy will be held at the legendary Camp Swamp, nestled in the idyllic woodlands of Georgia. The Swamp, as it is affectionately known, is a dream that started 30 years ago with many of the sister churches in Georgia and has been helping to mold the hearts and lives of generations ever since.
For this special week only, the Swamp will be transformed to include a Performing Arts Venue and Instructional Studios, while still including many of the things that you have come to love and expect at the Swamp (Starlight Devotionals, swimming, fishing, to name a few), plus a concentration in singing, acting and dancing, all in a spiritual and nurturing setting.
Throughout the week we will be learning selections from some of the greatest plays and musicals, including excerpts from the recent revival of Upside Down. The week will culminate in a special showcase for all the parents with professional lights and sound! There will be group numbers, smaller ensembles and even some solos! And if Technical Theatre interests you, there will be opportunities for lights, sound, costumes, and more.
The program is open to participants from 9 years old to 18. For more information and to register, click here.
