My wife, La Micia and I began our new journey leading the Youth and Family Ministry in Southern Connecticut Church of Christ on May 1, 2017. If you would have told me how this all would have happened, I wouldn't have believed you. As I think back on the last three years, I am in awe of the way God works.
My wife and I arrived in Madrid, Spain on January 7, 2015. We decided to move there after a lot of prayer and encouragement from the Greater Baltimore Church of Christ (our home church at the time). Cash and Maria McHargue had already moved from Baltimore to Boston and were leading the church in Madrid at the time of our move there. Cash was actually the person who reached out to me and studied the Bible with me along with Will Lambert (more on him later) while I was a student at Towson University.
As many know, on November 3, 2015 the McHargue's had to return to the United States to begin consulting doctors on the next steps for Maria's back surgery that would take place on November 10 of that year. This was a truly hard time for the church in Madrid and many prayers and thoughts were with the McHargue family during this challenging time. During this time, the leadership team of Madrid really stepped up and stepped in to fill in the gap to carry on the work that Cash and Maria had been doing during this challenging time in the history of the Madrid church.
The Madrid church was able to keep the "ship afloat" and continue to advance God's work during this time in large part because of the amazing work of the faithful brothers on the leadership team in Madrid who persevered faithfully under a lot of pressures. In addition, the help from the European Missions Society (EMS) and wise counsel from Silipos was invaluable. Ultimately, this was God's guiding hand using all parts of his body to carry on his mission and show his love and care for all members of his body.
During all of these trying transitions, God was working out his master plan. Will and Kristen Lambert were ministers at the Southern Connecticut Church of Christ and recent graduates from the New England School of Missions (NESM). Will Lambert was also at one time a member of the Greater Baltimore Church of Christ and just so happened to be one the brothers who baptized me back in 2010!
In a yearly summer missionary internship where disciples from New England are sent to Madrid to serve the church, Will and Kristen Lambert happened to be participants in this internship.
In May 2016 the Madrid church had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Will and Kristen and ultimately made the decision to invite the Lamberts back for an interview and they were ultimately hired by the Madrid Church of Christ and moved to Madrid on February 9, 2017. The Lamberts moving to Madrid to lead the church meant that Southern Connecticut Church of Christ were looking for big shoes to fill and to make a story that could be much longer as short as possible, La Micia and I ultimately were offered and accepted a position as the Youth and Family Ministers at the same church the Lamberts had just been sent from!
God truly does set the times and places!
