After serving for more than 42 years in full time ministry, evangelist Rick Maule recently retired, but that hasn't stopped him from serving God full-time. Rick has now become a successful author to raise money for missions. His new novel, Moonlight Helmsman, tells the amazing and true story of Robert Smalls, who rose from slavery to become the first African American to command a ship in the US Navy.
The book is selling well and has received positive reviews from the respected Kirkus Reviews and the Hartford Book Examiner. Moonlight Helmsman was assigned reading in two Connecticut school systems during Black History Month and is in the running for three different independent book awards. At a recent signing event at Bank Square Books in Mystic, Connecticut, Rick sold a record number of books.
This year, Rick is donating all proceeds from the novel to the New England Churches' Missions Contribution. He's already raised over $5000 in just over two months and hopes to donate over $20,000 by the end of 2017!
All this goes to show that our abundant life in Christ can get better as we age. Rick and his wife Mary Nell are presently traveling around to preach free of charge at various churches, selling books as they go. All profits from books sold are given to the missions contribution of that local church. And yes, Rick is presently working on his next novel. To God be all the glory!
