Last summer disciples from San Diego were able to take an amazing team to Open Arms daycare in La Mission, Mexico where we were able to teach a Vacation Bible School (VBS) in Spanish. There were were about 15 people adults as well as teens that went to teach the kids in the group. Open Arms daycare is a not- for -profit daycare that helps needy families in Mexico.

The children are sponsored by donations to be able to be in daycare so that their parents are able to work to feed their families. The family that started the daycare is amazing in their work with families in this little town.

We enjoyed working with Open Arms. We were able to hold a 4 four day VBS. We sang, told bible stories, made crafts, ate snacks and played games. It was so much fun to watch the kids’ eyes light up as they learned a song or a new insight into the Bible. The kids loved the attention of the teens and hung on to them from the time we arrived until the moment we left. The staff were a great help; they sat in the classes and participated as needed. A couple of times we were able to stay and eat a meal with the kids, that was fun as well. We stayed in some dorms the daycare were we ate most of our meals. We went hiking, to the beach and were able to have devotionals and grow in our knowledge of God as we served the kids.

When it came time to go, no one wanted to leave. There were many tears and promises to come back. The Open Arms daycare they said we were one of the most loving and organized groups that has been there, and they have invited us back!

So, on July 28, 2013 we will go back, we will spend a week there, and we invite you and your friends to come and help!

We will do a week long Vacation Bible School. Also, in the afternoons we will do work projects at the daycare, or wherever we are needed. There is a medical and dental office on-sight, so if you or a friend want to go as a doctor or dentist, we can offer a clinic during our time there (even if you can’t stay the entire time you can still come).

You will need a passport to travel into Mexico. The cost will be approximately $100.00, plus gas money to get from San Diego to La Mission. This will pay for your housing as well as food for the week. We will be driving to La Mission, which is about an hour outside of Tijuana, and is a safe environment.

If you would like to come on the trip, please contact me Cindy Wilkinson at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Everyone is welcome but I need Spanish speakers for sure.

I get excited dreaming about it all, what will God will do through us – so come and join the fun – we need you!
