Sixty volunteers from 15 different cities across the United States and four different countries across North America and Europe came together in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti to serve the needy and enrich their spiritual lives. Together, they helped repair three houses in the Village of HOPE which were damaged by Hurricane Isaac, painted another 10 homes, and helped build a fence around the village property. Volunteers also taught English and math and played recreational games with orphans in Ganthier. All the brothers and sisters could not stop raving about the amazing unity they enjoyed as they worked together despite many volunteers meeting each other for the first time.
Daily devotionals gave every volunteer the opportunity to dig deeper in the Bible while they enjoyed great fellowship every day following study times. A midweek service with the Croix Des Bouquets church was most inspiring while familiar worshipful songs were sung simultaneously in French, Creole, and English. The 23rd anniversary service of the Port-au-Prince Church of Christ gave great vision to many as over 700 came together to worship God.
On the last day of the program, all the participants spent the day on the north coast of Haiti and enjoyed relaxing on the beach, drinking coconut water, eating local delicacies and having a great time bonding with one another.
More excitingly, God continues to expand the horizon as we begin to plan for HSC in 2013 and 2014. The HSC Committee and HOPE worldwide are already laying the ground work for programs in Texas, Haiti, and Nicaragua in 2013 and Bolivia, Haiti, and England in 2014. Many opportunities are opening for singles around the world in our churches to teach and preach and help and heal just like their Lord while they build lasting friendships that enhance their lives and embolden their vision for the future. Let all ICOC churches encourage and empower their singles to be at the forefront of service to become one of the driving forces in their fellowship. To God be the Glory!
