Meet Our People
My name is Lauren Carr and I’m a disciple in the Chicago Church of Christ, West Suburb Ministry. I want to share how God has used tragedy to bring about hope and healing.
As I write these words, I’m still feeling a little shaky. The police just left our house not too long ago. Wait…what? Well, let me back up a little and tell you the whole story.
It has been just a little more than three hours since my husband, Darren, and I arrived home from Denver after a truly heart-inspiring time at the All Generations Family Conference this weekend. But in the three short hours we’ve been home, I have seen more clearly than ever the need for each disciple to give our prayers, our hearts, and our energy to impacting the next generation for God.
The Bible paints an incredible picture for us of the joys that await us in heaven, but even as disciples, we often age with a growing apprehension about what our passing will be like. Not so with Dorothy Cain Ross-Willstein, who had a very Biblical understanding of what awaited her at her passing.
Recently, I had the unique opportunity to walk a few blocks through downtown Dallas with Roger Lamb. We had met several times over the years but never really had the chance to get to know each other. As we walked he asked me about my family, to which I replied, "That's a long story." Normally when you hear someone make that statement what follows isn't always pleasant, but in our case this could not be further from the truth. Ours is a story of incredible faith, persecution, perseverance and transformation that spans over a period of 30 years and counting.
"Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” – Ephesians 4:31-32
October 18, 2016 represented two years of waiting. Two years spent in and out of hospitals, months of physical and occupational therapy, six procedures to date (one spinal, one vascular and four abdominal surgeries) and a seventh, another back surgery, scheduled for November after my honeymoon.
On Friday, December 15, 2016, hundreds gathered in Queens, New York as Joseph Zayas was inducted to the office of Supreme Court Justice in New York State's 11th Judicial District. Joey and his wife Cathy are longtime members of the New York City Church of Christ's Long Island Region.
Elroy Smith loves God and everyone around him. He is an accomplished, awarded executive in the radio industry currently serving as Operations and Program Director for KRBQ and KBLX in San Francisco.
Many years ago Elroy became a disciple of Jesus through the Chicago Church of Christ ministry to professionals. God blessed him with his wonderful wife Vonda and now they celebrate life with their three beautiful children. We asked Elroy to share some of his experience as a Christian professional. Also note how his light shines in the linked article at the end.
This summer at the Reach conference in St. Louis I got the chance to meet my favorite athlete ever: two-time Pro-Bowler, former Seattle Seahawk, Mack Strong! He's my childhood hero, and I have longed to meet him for years!
