Lebanon is a Middle Eastern nation, population 4 million, bordering Israel and Syria. Beirut is our beautiful Mediterranean capital. Languages spoken are Arabic, French, English, and Armenian. About 60% of the population is Muslim, although another 40% in our country affiliate to Christianity.
After many weeks praying for Douglas Jacoby's visit to Lebanon and the bold evangelistic event we had scheduled, the day finally arrived. For many weeks we had been advertising the Saturday evening meeting through radio, television, email, posters, flyers, and of course mouth-to-mouth. In faith we had booked one of the best locations in Beirut, the House of Physicians. Since we are a congregation of only 25 members, we did not know what to expect. We only knew that God would act.
In our largest turn-out since the church was planted, on 29 November we had 375 in attendance, including 350 guests! In fact, the total was 15 times the church's membership! It was so encouraging to watch the PowerPoint lecture entitled Does God Exist?, and see Dr. Douglas interacting with the visitors, many of them university students. The Arab television network SAT-7 was there, as were several dignitaries from the major denominations in Lebanon.
In addition to the special evidences lectures, Douglas also led a leadership class, attended by most of the church (even some visitors). We also visited the sites of biblical Tyre and Sidon, which are not too far from Beirut.
The following day was our Sunday service. 65 visitors returned for this meeting, and over 20 new personal Bible studies were set up. Once again, SAT-7 was on hand to film the event, another PowerPoint called Can We Trust the Bible? We are also preparing for a special Christmas event on 19 December, and planning to invite all 350 of our visitors. Our single mission is to save souls; please pray for us that we may follow up effectively. All the glory goes to God!
