A Day of Hope is one of the HOPE projects we have here in Novosibirsk. It is a summer camp trip.

It is held at Orphanage #6, and for the last several years I’ve been taking part in it. The kids from the orphanage usually go to summer camp for their whole summer break and we visit them there at camp every month throughout the summer.
One of the events we had during our August visit was a soccer tournament, HOPE vs. the kids. Only seven of us could actually play but we were still ready for the match. It took us awhile to get from the train station to the camp but we finally got there and after a quick warm-up, started the game. During the first period the kids were winning. They had already scored three goals to our one. During halftime our team rested and analyzed the game while the kids simply kept on playing, and that strategy seemed to work because we then scored three more goals and the kids only one! But unfortunately we lost 5-4.
After the game they demonstrated their ability to quickly break down and reassemble a rifle using an assortment of Kalashnikov automatic machineguns. Some of the people in our group were also familiar with them and joined in. After that we hung out a little bit longer and then began our trip back home.
