It has been very encouraging to see the unity and cooperation of the Heartland Family of churches grow in recent years.
Please send a review of what God is doing in your region of the world to: content@DToday.net
The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Gen 11:6
While each church has unique personalities and perspectives, we have been finding productive ways to pool our resources and advance the cause of Christ together. (The Heartland is a group of 12 churches in 5 States in the heart of America). Here are just some of the highlights of our cooperation in 2007:
- Gave over $150,000 to Eurasian Missions, which was a sizeable increase from the previous year. Additionally, ten disciples visited churches throughout Siberia and Eastern Russia.
- Gave thousands of dollars to HOPE worldwide, a total amount that was much more than we gave in 2006.
- Over a hundred teens, college students, singles and parents to build homes for the poor in Juarez, Mexico. The Kansas City church has organized this annual life-changing event for the past several years.
- Very successful Youth Camp of over 200 teens in Kansas, called My Space, His Space. The Wichita church also hosted an inspiring teen rally for all of our teens.
- A marriage retreat hosted by the Columbia church with more than 300 in attendance, and equally successful campus and singles retreats.
- Staff conference in St. Louis with all of the Heartland and Midwest staff members. There was also a women’s leadership retreat in Kansas City.
In addition to these joint victories, it was encouraging to see some other victories from congregations throughout the Heartland:
- The Oklahoma City church gave 30,000 dollars to Eurasian Missions, and sent 6 disciples to encourage the churches in Novosibersk and Ohmsk, Siberia. They also re-organized the church into discipleship partners.
- The Wichita, Kansas church hired a new campus ministry couple, Randy and Kim Ware, who were originally converted as teens in that church. They are also presently searching for a new lead evangelist.
- The Tulsa, Oklahoma church appointed its first deacons ever.
- The church in NW Arkansas began a new ministry to help meet the needs of children in foster care.
- The Springfield, Missouri church had its best year of growth ever in its seven year history. They also gave $10,000 to Eurasian Missions, and their campus ministry grew from four to ten disciples in the fall semester.
- The Columbia, Missouri church celebrated its 10th anniversary and its greatest year of growth ever. Their campus ministry continued to grow in strength and number.
- The St. Louis, Missouri church organized the congregation into 22 Service Teams and every member committed to serve on at least one Team, according to their individual gifts and passions. They also had their greatest year of growth in the past decade.
- The Lawrence, Kansas church just hired a new Lead Evangelist and Women’s Ministry Leader-- Ken and Esther Long. The Tangs had moved to serve in the ministry in Los Angeles.
We are thankful to God for the many blessings He has given throughout the Heartland and are hungry for even more in 2008.
