Sometimes we feel lonely and in need of a friend. What better way to make a friend than to reach out to a neighbor and bring them to Christ. That is what Laurence Paquis did. She took a bold step, helped Delphine and her husband to be saved, and she gained a best friend in the process…

Laurence Paquis and her husband Gerald, along with their three young children, moved from Brussels to a village outside of Lyon (France) a few years ago, at a time when the churches in Europe were going through a very challenging time.

Laurence found herself quite isolated but she clung to her faith. The family would attend the church in Lyon but during the week they were quite far from other disciples. Laurence however had strong convictions that, wherever she was, she needed to share her faith. She opened a small dance school. Young girls would come for classes accompanied by their mothers.

Laurence took a bold step in a country like France. She choreographed dances using Christian songs. She didn’t know how the parents would react in a country where most pride themselves on being atheists.

God blessed Laurence’s boldness. Several moms really loved the arrangement and even participated in a mother and daughter dance! One of the moms, Delphine, was particularly moved so Laurence invited her to the church in Lyon. Finally Delphine, her husband, and their four young children came to a meeting.

They loved it. That very same evening the Holy Spirit prompted Laurence and her husband Gerald (with children in tow) to drop by to see how their friends were. Delphine and Stephane were so excited they begged Laurence and Gerald to study the Bible right away that very evening. They ended up staying up late into the night reading the Scriptures.  The seven children (both families combined) stayed up late also, even though they had to go to school the next day!

God blessed the two families’ sacrifice. Delphine and Stephane had very open hearts. They soon became Christians. Laurence is so excited to have a best friend right there with her in her village. The two families have become inseparable. They now have a local Bible Talk meeting.

Sometimes we feel lonely or isolated. The ideal solution is to go, make a friend, and help them to follow Jesus!
