Contacts for Connecting with Haitian Disciples PDF Print Email

Three disciples have stepped forward volunteering to be the connection points for people wanting to connect with the International Churches of Christ in Haiti. This is incredibly helpful since the infrastructure is so damaged and the church leaders in Port-au-Prince are busy meeting needs of disciples and others who have come to them for help.

I just spoke to our brother Stanley, he and the other brothers made it to Port-au-Prince safely (quite a feat) and were able to bring in some supplies and provisions through the Dominican Republic (praise be to God). They had to do that in the most inconspicuous of ways so as to not bring attention to themselves and to the church because as you know relief is not coming soon enough to the people and many are willing to resort to violence to get food and resources. Right now the situation in Port-au-Prince is very unsafe that they are not yet encouraging anyone to come without a clear plan, However, once it is safe and we are able to come up with a plan they welcome all the help they can get.

Also, they are receiving so many phone calls from brothers and sisters asking for information, though they understand the concern and the love that we have for them, the volume of the calls is too much for them to handle; they need to attend to the needs of the disciples and the country at large. They are asking me to coordinate point of contacts in the different congregations/regions of the U.S., that way they will communicate with only a few people at a time. For example my husband Joseph and I will be the point of contact for South Florida so if anybody needs information or would like to communicate anything to the church in Haiti please call or email us and w will forward the info/question to them. Also if you have any information that you would like to disseminate to the brothers and sisters in South Florida regarding Haiti, relief and support please let us know and we will gladly do so.

Right now the church has communicated the need for a solar panel if anybody has one to donate or would like to raise money for the church to purchase one it would be wonderful. However I have not yet figured out how we would get it to them. Nonetheless, if we could have it ready so that once we solve the shipping/transport issues we can get it to them ASAP.

The brothers are going to launch a search and rescue effort for the disciples. So if there is a Christian anywhere who is still looking for a loved one and has not been able to contact them send us the name, address, phone number, any other important information regarding that family member so that they can start searching for them. We are compiling a list, we are going to take care of our own first, and then we can turn our attention to the community at large.

Churches – Especially those who have big Haitian population (N.Y., Boston, Chicago, Florida), please share this email with your members and communicate the name and the info of your point of contact person to me, if I do not have one yet, so that we can keep in touch and coordinate as one.

Thank you so much
