The three newly appointed elders laid their hands on Randy McKean, shared personally about Randy’s impact on their lives and the NVCOC and then recognized him as a fellow elder. After Manny Miles and Will Llorens offered prayers on each family’s behalf, the four elders shared, personally offering their thanks to those who had helped them reach this point in their lives, and charging the congregation with a passionate vision to continue to grow.
Frederic Bouchet, a French citizen, started his spiritual journey at Virginia Tech when he tried to persuade some Christians that their beliefs were futile. God humbled Frederic and he started to have faith in Jesus as he fell in love with a godly woman, Mary Bea, whom he married a short time later. After moving to Paris, Frederic and Mary Bea became disciples of Christ through the Paris Church of Christ, which was led by Randy and Kay McKean. Frederic served for 9 years as the Administrator for the churches in Western Europe. In 2005, the Bouchets with their three daughters, Emilie, Olivia, and Lucie, moved to Manassas, VA and joined the NVCOC. Frederic has been serving as the Manassas House Church Leader, a group which has helped seven people become disciples over the past two years. Frederic currently works as Math teacher and his family continues to have an influence on the NVCOC as well as Virginia Tech, where Emilie attends as a freshman.
Tom Ziegler became a Christian in Northern Virginia in the 1980s along with his wife, Lori. Tom and Lori helped plant churches in Philadelphia and Nairobi, Kenya. They later moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, where Tom served for 12 years as the Administrator for all of the churches in Africa. Nick (18) and Trina (16) were both born in Africa. The Ziegler family moved to Herndon, VA in 2003, joining the NVCOC where they immediately began serving as the Children’s Ministry coordinators. Tom and Lori authored two very popular books aimed at helping families with ideas for family devotionals entitled, “As for Me and My House,” and “As for Me and My House 2.” Upon moving to Virginia in 2003, Tom once again started working as a Pharmacist. Tom and Lori now run their own Medicap Pharmacy in Ashburn, VA.
Jack Rosenquist grew up in the Churches of Christ and attended Abilene University where he chose to marry a godly woman named Cathy. The Rosenquists were baptized in San Diego, later entering in the full time ministry. They helped to plant the church in San Francisco, and served in the ministry in San Diego and Chicago prior to moving to Northern Virginia in 1999. Jack and Cathy have had a tremendous impact on the NVCOC including many years leading the Teen Ministry, which has been one of the most fruitful ministries in the church, impacting many of our families. Their son James attends James Madison University and their daughter Amy is one of seven disciples in Herndon High School. Jack is known for his child-like heart and is often found playing with, talking to, and encouraging the kids in the church. He is an established salesman and continues to have a great impact along with Cathy through helping the parents in the teen ministry.
Randy McKean became a Christian after contracting Hodgkin’s Disease (cancer) as a freshman at the University of Florida. After God healed him, Randy met and married his wife, Kay and following graduation moved to Columbia, South Carolina to serve in the full time ministry. Randy and Kay have served around the globe in numerous capacities, planting and helping lead churches in South Carolina, Paris, Tokyo, Munich, and Boston as well as serving as a missions evangelist across all of Europe. After a brief time working for an engineering firm in Orlando, Florida, the McKeans moved to Northern Virginia to serve as the evangelist and women’s ministry leader for the NVCOC in July 2007. In just two short years, the McKeans have had a tremendous impact on the NVCOC through their example, ministry, preaching, and teaching. Their passion and shepherding heart for the church was evident from the start as they met with every single member to have “Getting to Know You” talks. The church fell in love with them and they fell in love with the members. As God promised in John 13, “all men will know you are my disciples by your love for one another,” so the ministry that the McKeans have built on God’s love has become known and continues to bear fruit, growing from barely 200 on Sundays to more than 400. The McKeans’ son and daughter in law, Kent and Heather McKean, have also moved to Northern Virginia where they now serve as the Teen Ministry leaders. Their daughter, Summer and her husband are disciples in the North River Church of Christ.
Praise God for His work in these men’s lives and their families. They truly serve as “examples to the flock” and inspire all of us to strive to let God lead our lives so that we can continue to be used by Him. Please continue to pray for the Northern Virginia Church and these newly appointed elders as we transition into a new chapter as a congregation.
