Manila Update: Grace and Needs PDF Print Email

The Lord spared most cities in the Philippines from the destructive rampage of Typhoon Pepeng as it veers course at the last minute. God truly answers the prayers of the saints!

Here are the triumphs and needs of the disciples.

Amidst the chaos of the past few days, more and more disciples were tearfully reunited as they met in devotionals, in the dark, and literally wading or swimming through floodwaters! What has amazed me even more is the spirit of these disciples, who despite being subjected to the terrors of rampaging waters, loss of properties and livelihood; they still gave of themselves and are more concerned with the plight of others! No wonder Paul referred to them “my joy and crown”!

As the storms abate and we begin to survey the destruction around us, we still have 4 disciples who we cannot account for. So please continue to pray that we will find them. Two disciples are now in hospitals as(with Eddy in critical condition)direct casualties of the floods. The needs are great as we begin to pick up the pieces from many a shattered home. This is what we have:

· 35 families lost their homes (swept away)

· 29 have been forced out of their rented homes and are temporarily staying with disciples and or relatives

· 97 have damaged homes

· 229 lost properties, belongings, vehicles, kid’s school materials, clothes, etc...

· 13 have lost their livelihood and businesses

· Over 400 brothers and sisters and their families have been severely affected by the storms or 1,900 individuals affected.

The response from churches all over the world has been swift and the outpouring of love and concern so inspiring! As much as there are (silent)heroes in the Philippines like Jojo and Eden, who would jump into the floodwaters to save children and the elderly and bring them to safety in their homes (they saved and fed 50 people), to Joy M and Joy R manning and tirelessly helping out our relief centers churn out the much needed aid to our disaster stricken brothers and sisters, to Jeric and Merwyn coordinating relief in the North area of Manila, to our HOPE staff courageously saving the children in our HOPE centers from onrushing floods and likewise serving the community, to so many disciples responding to every need, alarms, delivery of aid or simply comforting those distraught, to our incredible churches in our provinces who like true Macedonian churches are giving in amazing ways!

The other heroes are YOU. Your unceasing prayers, assurances, emails, calls, have strengthened our hearts and our resolve to stay strong and keep the faith. To this, we want to say thank you! You have made us feel that we are not alone in this. That we have a worldwide family that cares for us and love us deeply. We feel so humbled by all of you and I know that your generosity will result in much thanksgiving and praise for our God.

THE STORM IS PASSING OVER... It’s time to rebuild!

With Love and Respect,

Koko Enrile
