My theme question coming out of the internship with regards to the 'Hall of Fame of Faith' in Hebrews 11: Why not me?

Increase My Faith

I went into the North River Campus Internship feeling very nervous. Being shy and outspoken in nature, I wondered if it was my place to be in the internship program. Furthermore, I felt as if my biblical knowledge wouldn’t be good enough to be a part of the internship program. And finally, the big word that made me freeze whenever I heard of it – evangelism. I was nervous and not bold at all when it came to evangelism.

However, none of that seemed to matter. The ride to Atlanta was fun as I rode my car prayed and asked God to prepare our hearts and then just enjoyed each other’s company. Finally, we got to the North River Church and the fellowship was amazing. I saw brothers and sisters that I haven’t seen in a while and also brothers and sisters whom I have never seen before in my life.

The theme of the internship was ‘Increase Our Faith’. Classes began on Tuesday morning with an expedition of Hebrews 11 by David Laing. This impacted me because we learned about many great men and women from the Old Testament who lived by faith, for example Able and Abraham. The expedition concluded Wednesday morning when David talked about Jesus and how he lived by faith through dying for us on the Cross.

Furthermore, my issue with boldness was addressed. In the ‘Increase Our Boldness’ class, Matt Webber and Tereji Coleman talked about how being bold was out of appreciation for what we have in Christ. Furthermore, there were many different opportunities to be bold. My internship group went to Kennesaw State University that Wednesday night before midweek, a friend from Columbia and I went to Georgia Tech a little early to go share our faith before devotional, and we sang in the mall and on the train system in Atlanta. Upon thought, I did think that it would be easier for me to be bold in Atlanta because I wasn’t from Atlanta. However, as disciples we are strangers in this world and we shouldn’t conform. I was convicted to be a stranger when I got back to Columbia.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Jeff Hickman discussed something called the “Samson Syndrome”. Jeff talked about Samson and how he would have victories, but he would continually mess up. He talked about how guys do what they want and aren’t really complete in their faith. Furthermore, he brought up 14:1-2 when Samson ordered for a Philistine woman to be his wife. Jeff then discussed how Samson despised his destiny and how we shouldn’t be that way.

Friday morning, there was a lesson by Jarrod Robinson about media and television. Personally, without technology, I would freak out because I like being in communication with everybody. However, he pointed out Romans 12:2 which tells us to not to conform to the world any longer. We’re not called to be worldly and just want the next new thing. We’re not called to be worldly and watch TV shows that are really inappropriate. I learned that I’m called to step out on faith and be different.

And without faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6

Basically, this internship was amazing. I learned that faith is many different things. From simply taking the step to reach out to some complete stranger, even to something as simple as watching TV, I can be faithful in so many ways. Hebrews 11:6 basically says that if I don’t have faith and step out on my faith, I can’t please God. This internship also taught me to step out on my faith. Hebrews 11 talks about many great men and women who lived by faith and I have that same opportunity; we all do.
