Fishing for Men - Charitable Angling PDF Print Email

Angling. Gone Fishin'. Fishing for Men. Set the hook. Drop your nets. Get your pole! Take a Kid Fishing.

All of these phrases are thoughts people have when we think of fishing. With the rise of globalization, we have seen how this practice is available and performed all over the world! Sportsmen are even doing shows in South America and Africa showing others the thrill of the catch available to all - if they but travel there!

How fitting that Jesus chose the timeless activity of fishing as an allegory for our lives as ambassadors for Christ! Perhaps the sole primary difference back then, was - it wasn't a hobby - It was a livelihood. The term "ANGLING" is not widely understood by people - even by some who love to fish! An "angler" is a person who as he fishes, looks out overthe water and casts his nets or baits, numerous times, and each time locates them at a different angle from the prior attempts. He is looking for fish! How is your spiritual angling going? This article displays a unique angle on "Fishing For Men." In Worcester, a couple brothers and I have volunteered and participated with local fishermen to help the poor and needy here in New England. The fruit of our labor has been a blessing!

Not only have we been able to get outdoors and admire God's creation, we have been able to touch people lives with some of God's benevolent love. Enjoy these two videos below and see how you can "Go Fishing for men" from a different angle and bear fruit for God!

The first video was a Charity Ice Fishing Derby we did around Valentine's Day this year to raise money for a children's diabetes camp fund. And the second shows people reaching out to paralyzed veterans - giving them a chance to get out on God's beautiful lakes and enjoy catching the "fish of a lifetime." See the "Bass Trail link" at www.nepva.org . For both of these, I was a volunteer doing the video editing and composing the music for a local access TV broadcast called "Go Fish with Dan Kenney." www.gofishdan.com These videos are the actual broadcasts and are used with permission. If you would like to help out, let me know! Perhaps, you could do something similar with your church and reach out to the local sportsmen at the same time!

May we grow to enjoy fishing for men more than outdoorsmen enjoy fishing for fish!
