 59 ICOC Churches Recognized as Pillars of HOPE at Global Summit
Speaking to an audience of more than 250 partners, staff and supporters from around the world at the organization’s recent Global Summit conference, HOPE worldwide CEO Randy Jordan singled out International Churches of Christ and their members for recognition. “You are an essential source of support and encouragement for us at HOPE worldwide,” he said. “Without churches like yours, there would be no HOPE worldwide , and it is important to us that you know how grateful we are.”
Jordan emphasized the importance of the Christian values underlying the ICOC-HOPE worldwide partnership in his remarks. “Thank you for every time you have participated in a HOPE worldwide activity and served another person. You have revealed something of Jesus to them. Thank you for every dollar that you have sacrificed to help the poor. By doing so, you also have allowed the love of Christ to be spread around the world through the service of others. ”
The International Churches of Christ and HOPE worldwide have a long legacy of service together. Their work with the poor and needy began in 1991 with three small programs. Today their partnership reaches every inhabited continent, serving more than one million people annually.
HOPE worldwide recognized ICOC churches that provide financial support for its work at the conference. Congregations that gave at least $1 per member per week in 2008 were honored with a “Pillar of HOPE” award. “We are grateful for the generosity of all our church supporters,” Jordan said, “ Here in the U.S. and around the world, so many people whom you will never meet in this life are indebted to you for your choice to support our work. “
