Ram Kishan made a complete turn in the twilight of his life…

When his son Bala became a disciple fourteen years ago Ram Kishan was skeptical. His family had followed the same traditions for generations and this was a very big change. Then Bala decided to marry a young lady in the church and this further broke with centuries of established customs.

Unlike a lot of fathers in the same situation Ram Kishan did not try to stop his son. Over the years he witnessed the changes in his son’s life. When his other son fell gravely ill and was hospitalized he was very impressed to see the disciples visit and help out. He never forgot the way they would come to the hospital and pray for his son when they really did not know the family very well.

Years later Ram Kishan’s wife passed away and Ram moved in with his son Bala and his family. Day after day he witnessed first hand the life of a Christian family. Week and after week he fellowshipped the disciples when they came over for the family group meetings.

Ram Kishan became more and more involved, setting up chairs, serving tea, and making new friendships. When the family group leader asked him to study the Bible two years ago he was not really ready for that and turned the offer down. Time passed and God worked on his heart.

A few weeks ago the family group leader decided to ask again and this time Ram Kishan said he had been waiting for someone to ask him. He had already been reading the Bible daily. Within a few weeks Ram Kishan studied the Bible and changed his life completely. At the age of 76, after a lifetime of traditions it was a total upheaval but Ram Kishan went through all the different challenges with a lot of courage.

On March 1 he was baptized after church. There was much rejoicing as so many disciples had known him for so long. His son, daughter in law, and granddaughter all shared at the baptism. It was a very special and inspiring day.

Since his baptism Ram Kishan has been a wonderful example for the younger disciples. As he is retired he has time to read his Bible a lot every day and he makes the most of it. He reads two hours in the morning and two hours at night. For someone who never read the Bible before he is catching up fast! It is so convicting for the congregation in New Delhi to have an older man set the pace in his relationship with God!
