Volunteers and Partner Organizations Serve in 100 Locations NationwideWayne, PA – In response to President Barack Obama’s call to service and in memory of Martin Luther King Jr., more than 10,000 HOPE worldwide volunteers of all ages and backgrounds served thousands to mark the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday with a day of community service. They were active in 100 different locations in 32 cities across the nation ranging from Los Angeles to Boston. “ Faithful volunteers from the International Churches of Christ make an enormous contribution each year to the success of our volunteer programs and this year is no exception” ~ Randy Jordan,HOPE worldwide CEO HOPE worldwide worked with nearly 100 partners, including:
Volunteers engaged in a wide range of projects geared to the needs of their local communities. Partnering with the American Red Cross, HOPE worldwide volunteers reached more than 130,000 homes in 25 U.S. cities with vital information to prevent home fires, America’s most common disaster threat.
As a volunteer-based and faith-based organization, HOPE worldwide is very dependent on its volunteers for creating impact in local neighborhoods and communities. HOPE worldwide President and Chief Executive Officer Randy Jordan said, "Faithful volunteers from the International Churches of Christ make an enormous contribution each year to the success of our volunteer programs and this year is no exception."
Corporation for National & Community Service grants through the Points of Light Foundation/Hands on Network provided funding to support MLK Day events. HOPE worldwide AmeriCorps members sponsored by the Corporation for National & Community Service also assisted in coordinating volunteers and service activities.
Radio, television, and newspaper media coverage far exceeded previous MLK Day year events. Thank you to all our partners and volunteers!
