Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community will come to fruition as people of different races, creeds and ages gather on Monday, January 19 to improve their communities to commemorate his birthday. In this spirit, more than 3,000 HOPE worldwide Los Angeles volunteers from across Southern California region making it a day of service.

John Causey, Executive Director of HOPE worldwide Los Angeles stated, “Service to others is an incredible common denominator and therefore I am very excited that we have so many willing and vibrant volunteers who are committed to participating in this year’s Day On Hope.”

For the past three years, our volunteers have served more than 40,000 volunteer hours. Recognized for its sustained commitment to community service HOPE worldwide Los Angeles received the Gold Level President's Volunteer Service Award.

This year, we are working with:

  • the Union Rescue Mission to aid homeless families
  • the American Red Cross to distribute disaster preparedness information
  • SeniorServ to provide outreach services to needy senior citizens via beautification projects
  • the Boys & Girls Club and the Los Angeles Unified School District to host game carnivals, sports clinics, literacy fairs and book drives to assist in the physical and educational development of disadvantaged children

This year’s special guest will be Jim Palmer, who currently serves as a Board Member of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Former guests include:

  • Congresswoman Hilda Solis, incoming Secretary of the United States Department of Labor
  • Henry Lozano, Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States and Director of USA Freedom Corps
  • David Eisner, CEO, Corporation for National and Community Service
  • Victoria Rowell, Actress, The Young and The Restless and Director of Rowell Foster Children’s Positive Plan.
